A federal jury has ordered Continental Carbon (Houston) and its parent company China Synthetic Rubber to pay $207 million for peculiarity damage caused by its Phenix City, AL facility. The adjacent city of Columbus, GA, a local merchant, and a resident su the company, saying the emissions of carbon black stained city anti residential estate and disrupted business.

The jury awarded $19 million in compensatory damages, $13 million in attorney
